Softball Recap: Thornton Fractional South Takes a Loss

Thornton Fractional South extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-14 in the process. They came up short against the Oak Lawn Spartans, falling 22-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Wolves have suffered against the Spartans since May 2, 2018.

As for Oak Lawn, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Oak Lawn's part, Aleksandria Blanco made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Blanco was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Danielle Dempsey was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Flor Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Thornton Fractional South will take on Oak Forest at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Oak Lawn, they will head out to challenge Hancock at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
