Baseball Recap: Salida Comes Up Short

Salida extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 9-10 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Colorado Springs Christian Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 13-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

Salida saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Rodrigue, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Colorado Springs Christian, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games.

On Colorado Springs Christian's side, Micah Davies spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jace Velasquez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Austin Leigh, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Salida has already played their next contest, an 11-1 win against Florence on the 10th. As for Colorado Springs Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 23-1 loss against La Junta on the 10th.
