Baseball Recap: Bridgeport Sets Scoring Season-High Against Paden City

Bridgeport had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 24-run drubbing they dealt Paden City on Wednesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 24-0 victory. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

JAKI THREET made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Nelson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Cy Booth also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Bridgeport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Bridgeport now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Paden City, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Coming up, Bridgeport will be playing at home against Catholic Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (the Bulldogs have three straight wins, the Crusaders have five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
