South Aiken waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles. This was a revenge game for the Thoroughbreds: when they faced off against the War Eagles back in September, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (108-103) South Aiken actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 18-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12.

Braislyn Newby paced South Aiken's offense, picking up 17 kills. Newby got some help from Malia Pemberton and her 36 assists. Pemberton also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Aubrey Boyd, each putting up three.

South Aiken's win bumped their record up to 20-10. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, with the loss, they broke their eight-match winning streak and moved their record to 17-4.

South Aiken didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Midland Valley on the 14th. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Aiken on the 14th.
