Softball Game Preview: New Riegel Blue Jackets vs. Covington Buccaneers

The New Riegel Blue Jackets will challenge the Covington Buccaneers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in New Riegel's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.

New Riegel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past Arlington 18-0. The Blue Jackets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jacqui Tiell was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Ava Hershman also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Covington won against Russia on Wednesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Buccaneers beat the Raiders by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won four in a row.

Whitney Burns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emalyn Johnson, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-4. Kylie Palsgrove was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

New Riegel's record now sits at 22-3. As for Covington, their record is now 24-6.
