Football Recap: Jaden Thurston and Ty Freeman Pace Burleson Defense + How To Watch

Burleson lost against Mansfield Timberview back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Elks took a 28-13 bruising from the Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Elks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Wolves are ranked 87th).

Burleson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jaden Thurston and Ty Freeman. Thurston has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last three times he's played. Burleson got some further help from Lawson Blanchard: he picked up a sack, made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.

Mansfield Timberview's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Steven Hall, who threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt. Those 276 passing yards gave Hall a new career-high.

Burleson has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Mansfield Timberview, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Burleson is set to square off against their familiar foe Argyle at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Andrew Sparks and Maguire Gasperson. Meanwhile, Mansfield Timberview will challenge rival Grapevine at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
