Basketball Recap: Zaniya Blackmon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Atlantic Collegiate Academy over Kingstree

If Atlantic Collegiate Academy was feeling good fresh off their 58-29 takedown of East Clarendon last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The matchup between the Atlantic Collegiate Academy Armada and the Kingstree Blazers didn't end well, with the Atlantic Collegiate Academy Armada falling 51-34. The Armada were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blazers earlier this season, when they won 53-46.

Atlantic Collegiate Academy lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Zaniya Blackmon, who posted ten points. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Micah Davis, who earned eight points in addition to nine boards and three steals.

Kingstree's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naydia Shaw led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Shaw has scored at least a third of Kingstree's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden McKnight, who put up eight points along with nine blocks and five boards.

Atlantic Collegiate Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Kingstree, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Atlantic Collegiate Academy will take on Mullins at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Atlantic Collegiate Academy's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Mullins has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. As for Kingstree, they and Lake City will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played.
