Basketball Recap: Valley Vista Comes Up Short

After flying high against Greenway last Monday, Valley Vista came back down to earth. The Valley Vista Monsoon lost 69-48 to the Willow Canyon Wildcats on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Monsoon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Wildcats are ranked 25th).

Willow Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaleel Kelly led the charge by going 5 of 10 on his way to 17 points along with eight assists and six boards. Kelly's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maurice Carter II, who went 5 of 9 en route to 15 points and three steals.

Valley Vista's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Willow Canyon, the win keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Valley Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 37-35 defeat against La Joya Community on the 27th. As for Willow Canyon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-38 victory against Thunderbird on the 27th.
