Baseball Recap: Monsignor Scanlan Crusaders vs. Iona Prep Gaels
Monsignor Scanlan had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-16 to make it nine. They came up short against the Iona Prep Gaels, falling 11-0. The Crusaders were not able to make up for their defeat to the Gaels from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.
As for Iona Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.
For Iona Prep's part, Andrew Catalic tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Dylan Merola was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Kendrick Jorge was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
