Baseball Game Preview: Otay Ranch Mustangs vs. Morse Tigers

The Otay Ranch Mustangs will be taking part in a tournament against the Morse Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Otay Ranch is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Francis Parker on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

The team relied heavily on Carlos Ulloa, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cory Salazar, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Morse, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Mater Dei Catholic 8-7.

Marcus Westover was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Westover was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Christian Fernandez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those hits were his first of the season. Jorge Munoz was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Morse's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2-1. As for Otay Ranch, they now have a winning record of 3-2-1.

Otay Ranch took their victory against Morse in their previous matchup back in March of 2017 by a conclusive 10-2. Will Otay Ranch repeat their success, or does Morse have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
