The Elgin Comets are taking a road trip to challenge the Hardin Northern Polar Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elgin will be strutting in after a victory while Hardin Northern will be coming in after a defeat.
Elgin took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Perry with a sharp 28-6 win. Considering the Comets have won three matchups by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brennon Luikart went supernova, rushing for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Those 161 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.
Luikart was just one part of a punishing run game: Elgin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 275 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 190 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Hardin Northern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Upper Scioto Valley 46-6. The Polar Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-6.
Elgin pushed their record up to 5-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.5 points on average over those games. As for Hardin Northern, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Elgin has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 290.6 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Hardin Northern, though, as they've been averaging only 81.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Elgin didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Hardin Northern in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 32-28 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Polar Bears' Xander Wilson, who threw for 173 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 36 yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Comets to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
