Basketball Recap: Lexington Piles Up the Points Against River Bluff

Lexington was handed a heart-breaking two-point defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against River Bluff on Friday. The Lexington Wildcats claimed a resounding 70-42 win over the River Bluff Gators. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Lexington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaleya Lytes led the charge by going 8 for 15 on her way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Lytes a new career-high in points. Izzy Saville was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 13 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Lexington was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River Bluff only posted six assists.

Despite the loss, River Bluff had strong showings from Jenna Johnson, who posted 21 points, and Meghan Tucker, who earned six points and four steals. That was a full 50% of River Bluff's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Hannah Riddle, who had seven points.

Lexington's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27.3 points. As for River Bluff, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Lexington has already played their next matchup (against Irmo), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. River Bluff will face off against Dutch Fork at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
