Basketball Recap: Wheatland Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mira Loma

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wheatland). They blew past the Mira Loma Matadors 51-3 on Wednesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 47-23 back in January.

Wheatland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kimiko Cervantes led the charge by going 7 for 15 to rack up 17 points and eight steals. What's more, Cervantes also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Reagan Clancy, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 steals.

Wheatland was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Wheatland picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-18. As for Mira Loma, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-20.

Wheatland and Mira Loma could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Wheatland will face off against Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on Friday down 798 places (1121 vs. 323). Wheatland is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. Similarly, Mira Loma (ranked 1173rd) will meet Marysville (ranked 253rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
