Union Pines extended their road winning streak to 13 games thanks to a huge performance from Ashanti Fox. The Union Pines Vikings came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rocky Mount Gryphons on Tuesday, sneaking past 79-77 which was due in part to Fox, who posted 44 points. Her big performance that evening made it 28 games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points.
Taryn Pekala was another key player, putting up 18 points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Despite the loss, Rocky Mount had strong showings from McKinley Battle, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds, and Kira Jones, who put up 21 points. That's the most points Battle has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of ZaNadiyah Harris, who had nine points.
Union Pines' victory bumped their record up to 27-1. As for Rocky Mount, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-2.
Looking ahead, Union Pines will head out on the road to take on Western Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Western Alamance will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Union Pines surely won't give up without a fight. Rocky Mount does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
