Basketball Game Preview: Rootstown Rovers vs. East Canton Hornets

The Rootstown Rovers will challenge the East Canton Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rootstown will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.

Rootstown saw some tournament action on Saturday. They really took it to Harding for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-8 win. The Rovers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Rootstown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ardynn Soika out in front who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadia Lough, who earned four points and six boards.

Rootstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Meanwhile, East Canton posted their closest win since January 13, 2024 on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-41 victory over Jackson-Milton. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Rootstown's win was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.3 points. As for East Canton, their victory bumped their record up to 8-14.

Everything came up roses for Rootstown against East Canton in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, as the squad secured a 59-13 win. In that contest, Rootstown amassed a halftime lead of 36-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
