Baseball Game Preview: South Granville Vikings vs. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans

For the second straight game, South Granville will face off against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability. The Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Granville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

South Granville was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability on Tuesday. The Vikings were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Spartans. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.

Noah Edwards was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. South Granville is undefeated when Edwards posts two or more runs, but 8-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, South Granville let Vani Hernandez and Evan Olson-Thornburg run wild. Hernandez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Olson-Thornburg went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. What's more, Hernandez posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Wilkins, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

South Granville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern School of Energy and Sustainability struck out ten times.

Southern School of Energy and Sustainability's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-10. As for South Granville, their record now sits at 12-10.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Granville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Southern School of Energy and Sustainability struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 stolen bases.
