Baseball Recap: Gretna East Griffins vs. Standing Bear Grizzlies
Gretna East took care of business in their home opener on Saturday. They never let the Standing Bear Grizzlies get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.
Trevor Cox tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Easton Leahy was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Carson Herrmann was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Gretna East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Standing Bear only posted a batting average of .083.
This is the second loss in a row for Standing Bear and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Gretna East will square off against rival Elkhorn at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Standing Bear is set to challenge their familiar foe Beatrice at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
