Baseball Preview: University Bulldogs vs. Berthoud Spartans

University has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Berthoud Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Friday, University made easy work of Basalt and carried off a 14-5 win.

Kaleb Tejada was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Tejada was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with a home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Scott Thompson looked comfortable as he tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Will Korby was excellent, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run. Preston Natividad was another key contributor, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Berthoud came tearing into Monday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.2 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 13-1 victory.

University has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Berthoud, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-1.

Everything went University's way against Berthoud in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 as University made off with a 9-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for University since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
