Baseball Recap: Western Wildcats vs. West Broward Bobcats
Western was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Broward Bobcats. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by exactly three runs.
Western got a good showing from Jimmy Huard, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Huard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Western saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miguel Tapia, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Anthony Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Western's record is now 7-9. As for West Broward, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Western will face off against Hewitt-Trussville at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. As for West Broward, they will challenge Episcopal School of Dallas at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Episcopal School of Dallas 3.7, West Broward 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
