Basketball Recap: Payson Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Payson entered their tilt with Juab on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 70-66 W against the Wasps. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Wasps are ranked 111th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Payson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Staheli, who posted 16 points in addition to six assists and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Staheli a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Joseph Wolfe, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 20 points and five steals.

Payson's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Juab, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Payson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-43 win against Box Elder on the 9th. As for Juab, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-50 loss against Manti on the 12th.
