Softball Recap: Oceanside Comes Up Short

Oceanside extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They lost 19-0 to the Hermon Hawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mariners of the 12-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Hermon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Hermon's part, Mikelle Verrill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Verrill has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Molly Simcox, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Gallant, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Oceanside is set to challenge their familiar foe Belfast at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Hermon will face off against rival Mount Desert Island at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
