Baseball Game Preview: Wes-Del Warriors vs. Union City Indians

Wes-Del hasn't had much luck against Union City recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Warriors will head out to take on the Indians at 5:30 p.m. Union City took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Wes-Del, who comes in off a win.

Wes-Del had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Randolph Southern on Thursday. The Warriors blew past the Rebels 12-2. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Warriors this season.

Carter Flynn made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Summers, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. He also scored three runs, which is notable because Wes-Del is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Zachary Gillam also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Wes-Del always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Randolph Southern only posted an OBP of .227.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Union City's offense. They lost 13-0 to Winchester Community on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Indians in their meetings with the Golden Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.

Wes-Del has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Union City, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
