Softball Game Preview: De Anza Dons vs. St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins

De Anza is on a five-game streak of home losses, and St. Patrick-St. Vincent a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The De Anza Dons will be playing at home against the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Monday, De Anza came up short against Saint Mary's and fell 4-1.

De Anza saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riana Everetts, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Maria Uriarte also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, while it was St. Patrick-St. Vincent who put the first runs on the board on Monday, it was Albany who put up more. The Bruins fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 9-7.

Taylor Etchieson put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Christina Thomsen was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

St. Patrick-St. Vincent's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for De Anza, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

De Anza took their win against St. Patrick-St. Vincent in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 23-4 score. Will the Dons repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
