Basketball Recap: Cesar Chavez Champions vs. West Point Dragons

The Cesar Chavez Champions came tearing into Friday's game with 19 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past West Point with points to spare, taking the game 63-45. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Cesar Chavez also won the last time the pair played last Tuesday.

Cesar Chavez got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Danta Stallworth out in front who scored 22 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Briones, who scored ten points along with seven steals.

Cesar Chavez's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.2 points per game. As for West Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cesar Chavez will challenge the Stallions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Shadow Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Champions are ranked 21st). As for West Point, they and the Monsoon will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Valley Vista is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
