Recap: Midfield Patriots vs. Susan Moore Bulldogs
The Midfield Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 64-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Susan Moore. While losing is never fun, Midfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while Susan Moore is ranked 33rd).
Despite the loss, Midfield saw an underclassman step up: Kamiya Webb dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. Webb is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Jazmin Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Midfield were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Susan Moore only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Susan Moore found their leader in underclassman Lani Smallwood, who scored 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Smallwood has scored at least 25% of Susan Moore's points. Another player making a difference was Cesa Hernandez, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Midfield has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Susan Moore, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
Midfield and Central will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Susan Moore will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Decatur Heritage Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 27th.
