Basketball Recap: Astoria/VIT Comes Up Short

Astoria/VIT lost against Beardstown back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Astoria/VIT Rebels took a blow against the Beardstown Tigers, falling 62-35. The Rebels were down 55-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Beardstown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cleon Djafalo led the charge by putting up seven points in addition to eight boards and four steals. Djafalo is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Jordy Kanda was another key player, scoring 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Astoria/VIT and nudges their season record down to 2-12. As for Beardstown, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Rushville-Industry the next time they take the court. Beardstown will head out to face Rushville-Industry at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Astoria/VIT will host them at 6:00 p.m. on January 21st.
