Simsboro is 1-6 against D'Arbonne Woods since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will face off against D'Arbonne Woods at 6:00 p.m. Simsboro is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
Simsboro took a 15-run defeat the last time they faced off against Choudrant, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Aggies 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 1st.
Ciara Caldwell was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jacoya Lewis, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for D'Arbonne Woods, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Caldwell Parish on Thursday as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for D'Arbonne Woods, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Aubrey Zachary spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, D'Arbonne Woods got a massive performance out of Charley Alford, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Alford has posted since back in March. Brinnly Redden also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
D'Arbonne Woods' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Simsboro, their record is now 16-9.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Simsboro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like D'Arbonne Woods struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Simsboro suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to D'Arbonne Woods in their previous matchup on Saturday. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
