Baseball Game Preview: Urbandale J-Hawks vs. Johnston Dragons

Urbandale is 1-9 against Johnston since June of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The J-Hawks will venture away from home to square off against the Dragons at 5:00 p.m. Urbandale will be strutting in after a win while Johnston will be coming in after a loss.

Urbandale will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Waukee, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The J-Hawks came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 7-4 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Johnston scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 14-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dowling Catholic. Dragons fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Maroons since Thursday.

Urbandale's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Johnston, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.

Urbandale might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Johnston in their previous meeting back in July of 2025. Can the J-Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
