Basketball Recap: SA Roosevelt Rough Riders vs. Johnson Jaguars
If the SA Roosevelt Rough Riders were feeling good off their 76-56 takedown of the Madison Mavericks last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. SA Roosevelt fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 60-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
SA Roosevelt's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jordan Thomas, who scored 19 points along with two steals, and Yarin White who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and two steals. Thomas hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Jensen Rentas-gonzalez, who scored nine points.
It was another big night for Daryl Banks, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds for Johnson. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Rizo, who scored ten points.
SA Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 11-18. As for Johnson, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-17.
SA Roosevelt will square off against the Chargers at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Churchill's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. As for Johnson, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Broncos at 9:00 a.m. Brandeis is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season.
