Soccer Game Preview: North Pike vs. Gautier

The North Pike Jaguars will head out to square off against the Gautier Gators at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Thursday just wasn't the day for North Pike's offense. They came up short against Florence on Thursday, falling 4-0. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, Gautier waltzed into their match on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their defense stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 1-0 shutout. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi soccer rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gautier's one-goal win came courtesy of Aaron Villa, who's now up to ten this season.

Gautier is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 30 goals over those 11 games. As for North Pike, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
