Basketball Game Preview: Goleman Gators vs. Marathon Dolphins

The Goleman Gators will head out to take on the Marathon Dolphins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, everything went Goleman's way against Coral Shores as Goleman made off with a 71-50 win. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Franki Sosa, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Goleman's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Frudrias Porter, who posted 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Marathon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 65-44 margin over Palm Glades Prep Academy on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Dolphins as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Marathon found their leader in freshman Jack Chapman, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 22 points and four steals. What's more, Chapman also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Briggs Roberts was another key player, putting up six points and seven boards.

Goleman pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Marathon, their victory bumped their record up to 6-13.

Goleman took their win against Marathon in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 88-67. Does Goleman have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marathon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
