Softball Recap: Ubly Bearcats vs. Kingston Cardinals
Ubly had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it four. They lost 8-0 to the Kingston Cardinals. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Bearcats were not able to get on the board.
As for Kingston, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games.
For Kingston's part, not much got past Chesaney Wenzlaff, who gave up just six hits to keep Ubly off the board. Wenzlaff has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Piper St. George was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base. Brianna Rayl also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Looking ahead, Ubly will head out on the road to square off against Brown City at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Green Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Bearcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Kingston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against All Saints Central at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
