Softball Recap: Brookstone Gets the Win

Brookstone proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 20) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Marion County Eagles 3-2. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Addyson Marsolf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madison Allport, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Rachel Knipe was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Brookstone was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marion County only posted a batting average of .200.

Brookstone's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Marion County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

Looking ahead, Brookstone will face off against Landmark Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars are facing the War Eagles at the right time seeing as the War Eagles are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Marion County, they will welcome Lamar County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
