Basketball Recap: Westlake Piles Up the Points Against Austin

Westlake waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 76-47 victory over the Austin Maroons. Given the Chaparrals' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Maroons are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Maroons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Foley Anderson, who posted 13 points. Anderson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Jillian Shirk was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Westlake is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Austin, their loss dropped their record down to 19-11.

Westlake is taking a road trip to square off against Bowie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bowie is on a six-game streak of home wins, Westlake a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Austin, they will welcome Akins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Austin is facing Akins at the right time seeing as Akins is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
