Football Game Preview: Porter-Gaud Cyclones vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

Porter-Gaud is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Cardinal Newman a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Porter-Gaud is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 38 points on October 3rd, they were much more limited against Northwood Academy last Friday. They had to suffer through a 34-7 loss at the hands of the Chargers. The Cyclones were already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.

Even if they lost, Porter-Gaud's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Allen Chisolm, Beanie Brown, and Cole Thornton, who each picked up one sack apiece. Chisolm was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman took a blow against Laurence Manning Academy last Friday, falling 61-6.

Cardinal Newman's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Porter-Gaud, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
