Softball Game Preview: Ponderosa Bruins vs. Vista del Lago Eagles

The Ponderosa Bruins will square off against the Vista del Lago Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Ponderosa's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Rio Americano 18-0. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.

Marissa Granade looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bailey Borges was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gianna Marietti, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Ponderosa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .562. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vista del Lago). They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Laguna Creek on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Alayna Piexoto looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Ella Dossey was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Those runs were her first of the season. Jillian McGuire was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Vista del Lago is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. The victory made it two in a row for Ponderosa and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Ponderosa couldn't quite get it done against Vista del Lago in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can Ponderosa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
