Recap: Excel Christian Warriors vs. Whittell Warriors
There's no place like home for the Excel Christian Warriors, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 54-14 victory over Whittell at home. That 40 points margin sets a new team best for Excel Christian this season.
Excel Christian was led to victory by Jonah Calderas and Mark Doerfler. Calderas scored 19 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Doerfler scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Calderas scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Cole Gassen, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Excel Christian now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Whittell, they bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Excel Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mineral County at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Mineral County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 217 points over their last three contests. As for Whittell, they will head out on the road to challenge Coleville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coleville comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
