3A Conference 17 recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 17 this week, Havelock beat White Oak 54-0. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
The Vikings lost to Havelock 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Camara Rawls ran for 77 yards in the defeat.
Chris Phipps was a passing and rushing force as Swansboro defeated West Carteret. He completed 2 passes for 12 yards and also ran for 132 yards.
Charlie Loya was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Pirates bested the Patriots. The 5-foot-9 sophomore grabbed 1 sack.
Kenny McDaniel was the best receiver in the league this week as West Craven beat Richlands. McDaniel racked up 4 receptions for 47 yards.
Havelock's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Travis Sabdo has thrown for 1,289 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Michael Bowman has 24 catches for 409 yards.
Jim Bryant's team's Derrell Scott needs only 42 yards against West Carteret next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 111 carries Scott has accumulated 958 yard this year.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Rams' Bowman goes up against Todd Nelson's team's Jake Freeman.
Next week's game between Havelock and the Patriots will feature an aerial matchup as Sabdo tests his arm against Freeman's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Jacksonville takes on the Eagles. The Cardinals are currently in third, while West Craven is in second.
