The Bethel Jaguars will head out on the road to square off against the Salesian College Preparatory Pride at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bethel has given up an average of 18.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bethel lost 25-9 to Justin-Siena on Monday. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mia Espinoza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakari Washington, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, while Salesian College Preparatory put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Albany. The Pride put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Pride, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
DeAmor Coleman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Salesian College Preparatory got a big performance out of Matea Gaddies, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Valeria Cuevas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Salesian College Preparatory was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Salesian College Preparatory is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Bethel, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Bethel hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Salesian College Preparatory struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Bethel suffered a grim 23-2 defeat to Salesian College Preparatory in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
