Basketball Recap: Mesa Vista Extends Winning Streak to Six

Mesa Vista had won five straight games and Tana Lopez did her part to make it six on Saturday. The Mesa Vista Trojans took down the Penasco Panthers 61-46 thanks to Lopez, who went 11-for-22 on her way to 27 points along with six assists and five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Mesa Vista's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Boies, who posted six points and eight steals. Boies is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Penasco still got an impressive performance from Rochelle Lopez, who put up 27 points and six steals. Lopez continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Atencio, who earned eight points.

Mesa Vista's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Penasco, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Mesa Vista has already played their next game, a 55-37 win against Mora on the 6th. As for Penasco, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-39 loss against Questa on the 6th.
