Basketball Recap: Wren Comes Up Short

Wren played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 90-36 loss at the hands of the South Pointe Stallions. The Hurricanes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-21.

Despite the defeat, Wren saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ava O'shields posted 11 points.

South Pointe was led to victory by Kaleigh Lucas and JaNyia Cunningham. Lucas shot 5-for-9 from long range and almost dropped a double-double with 28 points and nine assists, while Cunningham dropped a double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Lucas' big performance that evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kemoni Hardy, who had eight points along with five boards and four steals.

Wren's loss dropped their record down to 17-10. As for South Pointe, the win keeps them at an undefeated 28-0.

Wren does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Pointe, they will be playing at home against Lancaster at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (South Pointe has won 24 straight at home dating back to last season, while Lancaster won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
