Football Recap: Cade Hemphill and Brody Hopwood Secure Win for Strasburg

Strasburg is still undefeated this season after their contest against Elizabeth on Friday, but Elizabeth came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Indians skirted past the Cardinals 33-31. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered a 13-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leading Strasburg to victory were Brody Hopwood and Cade Hemphill. Hopwood threw for 282 yards and two TDs while completing 74.2% of his passes, while Hemphill rushed for 95 yards and a pair of scores. Those 282 passing yards gave Hopwood a new career-high. 102 of Hopwood's passing yards were hauled in by Ayden Dodge.

When it comes to explaining why Elizabeth lost, don't look at Tristan McCray. Despite the final result, he rushed for 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries. McCray's longest rush was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Griffin Widhalm, who rushed for 156 yards and two scores on only 12 carries.

Strasburg's record now sits at 6-0. As for Elizabeth, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.

Strasburg will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Englewood at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Elizabeth, they will challenge Bennett at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39.67 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
