Basketball Recap: Munster Takes a Loss

After a string of four wins, Munster's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were beaten by the Valparaiso Vikings 72-39. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Vikings are ranked 32nd).

Despite the loss, Munster still got an impressive performance from Cecilia Mason, who posted 15 points along with eight boards and three steals. Lia Sotiropoulos was another key player, putting up ten points.

Lillian Barnes was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds for Valparaiso. Barnes is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Delilah Kincaid, who went 6 of 9 en route to 14 points.

Munster's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-9. As for Valparaiso, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-7.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Munster has already played their next matchup (against Lake Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Valparaiso will face off against Hobart at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Valparaiso is facing Hobart at the right time seeing as Hobart is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
