Preview: Roma Gladiators vs. Los Fresnos Falcons
The Roma Gladiators will head out on the road to face off against the Los Fresnos Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Roma is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Roma beat Grulla by the very same score they won with last week: 41-37.
Meanwhile, Los Fresnos came up short against Port Isabel on Friday and fell 55-48. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Los Fresnos came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while Port Isabel is ranked 668th).
Despite the loss, Los Fresnos had strong showings from Gio Galvan, who scored 15 points along with four steals, and Jj Salazar, who scored 15 points. The game was Galvan's 21st in a row with at least ten points. Seth Jones was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Roma's victory bumped their record up to 2-10. As for Los Fresnos, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-5 record this season.
Roma took a serious blow against Los Fresnos in their previous meeting back in December of 2015, falling 73-41. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Roma was down 41-19.
