Baseball Recap: Oak Hills Comes Up Short

Oak Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the St. Xavier Bombers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Highlanders have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Gabe Cox was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Oak Hills saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Henry Maginn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Another was Wil Kraus, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Oak Hills' record now sits at 13-8. As for St. Xavier, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oak Hills will host Princeton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Highlanders will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups. As for St. Xavier, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Talawanda at 5:00 a.m. The Bombers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Brave have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
