Basketball Recap: Cross Takes a Loss

Cross was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bethesda Academy Blazers. The Stingrays lost against the Blazers in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 73-36 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Cross lost, don't look at Trent Luechtefeld. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 20 on his way to 22 points and eight boards. The game was Luechtefeld's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shiloh Hunter-Daniel, who posted six points and 11 rebounds.

Bethesda Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Israel Wright, who went 8 for 14 en route to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Ranier Whipple Ii, who had 12 points.

Cross' loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Bethesda Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.

Cross has already played their next matchup, a 63-32 defeat against Thomas Heyward Academy on the 17th. As for Bethesda Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-44 win against Beaufort Academy on the 17th.
