Baseball Recap: Winter Park Extends Winning Streak to Four

Winter Park waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Fenwick Friars. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly three runs.

Winter Park got a great performance from Miles Gotlib as he struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). Gotlib has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hayden Montanez, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Cole Blalock was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Winter Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Winter Park's record is now 14-3. As for Fenwick, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Winter Park will venture away from home to challenge Bishop Moore at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Winter Park's pitchers better be ready for this one: Bishop Moore has averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Fenwick, they will be playing at home against Berwyn/Cicero Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
