Basketball Game Preview: St. Peter Saints vs. Worthington Trojans

The St. Peter Saints will square off against the Worthington Trojans at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. St. Peter knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Worthington likes a good challenge.

St. Peter will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating New Ulm, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. St. Peter took down New Ulm 85-67 last Friday. That 18 point margin sets a new team best for the Saints this season.

Meanwhile, Worthington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. Their2024 ended with a 57-43 loss against Henning. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while the Hornets are ranked 36th).

St. Peter's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-5. As for Worthington, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

St. Peter was able to grind out a solid win over Worthington in their previous matchup back in January, winning 85-73. Will St. Peter repeat their success, or does Worthington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
