Baseball Recap: Veritas Prep Wins Going Away Against Tempe Prep

Veritas Prep hadn't done well against Tempe Prep recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Falcons blew past the Knights 12-0. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Falcons yet this season.

Logan Cortes and Mason Bushard were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cortes pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Bushard tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Cortes went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double, while Bushard went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Veritas Prep is undefeated when Cortes posts three or more hits, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Veritas Prep got a massive performance out of Cade Huseth, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Huseth has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Baylor Arnold, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Veritas Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Veritas Prep has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Tempe Prep, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

As of now, neither Veritas Prep nor the Knights have any future games scheduled.
