Baseball Recap: Wawasee Warriors vs. Northridge Raiders

Wawasee extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 17 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-16 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northridge Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in April.

Ryan Mack spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Wawasee saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Finley Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Northridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Wawasee since May 11, 2022.

On Northridge's side, the team relied heavily on Brody Wood, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Wood is becoming a predictor of the Raiders' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Kam Radeker also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Wawasee will take on Triton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northridge, they will square off against Warsaw at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
